Wine Recommendation:
Gypsy Canyon Vineyards NV Ancient Vine Angelica, Dona Marcelina's Vineyard Dona Marcelina’s Vineyard: Our Angelica is made from the fruit of 100 year old Mission grape vines. In the early 1800’s the first known woman wine grower in California, Dona Marcelina Felix Dominguez, grew Mission vines on her Santa Barbara property. In honor and celebration of Dona’s contribution to women in wine, our ancient Mission vineyard has been named Dona Marcelina’s Vineyard. Today it is the oldest producing vineyard in Santa Barbara County. In keeping with the historic nature of the vineyard we make “California Original Angelica” following the great pioneer winemaker Emile Vache’s notes from 1891. A Special Note About the Bottle: Our packaging, also of historical significance is environmentally friendly. The bottle is hand blown, embellished with a hand made paper label and the cork is sealed with natural bees wax harvested from the estate property. A rare taste of California history. Winemaking Notes: On the morning of October 22, 2004 we hand harvested ½ ton Mission grapes from our ancient Mission vineyard. The grapes were gently whole cluster pressed into a stainless steel tank and allowed to cold settle for 3 days protected by a layer of co2. The must was then inoculated with yeast to begin the fermentation. At approximately 12 brix, fermentation was arrested by addition of 190.5 proof grape spirits, resulting in 9% RS and 17% ACL. The wine was then gently gravity racked to seasoned French Oak where it rested on the lees. August 25, 2006 it was gravity racked, blended with a small percent of 2001 and 2003 Angelica before hand bottling with no filtration. Technical Notes:
