Ledgewood Creek 2003 Chardonnay$12.75 -- Suisun ValleyPurchase Ledgewood Creek 2003 Chardonnay
Classically crafted. The Ledgewood Creek Chardonnay was 100%
barrel fermented and barrel aged for 12 months. Following a partial
malolactic fermentation, the barrel aging was completed using
50% French and 50% American oak; 50% of them new. Toasty oak
aromas with hints of melon are evident in the nose and are
followed by rich, buttery tropical flavors. A long balanced finish
makes the wine a perfect complement to rich white meat dishes
and shellfish.
Winemaker Tasting Notes: The 2003 vintage year was a challenging year for winegrowers in Northern California. Unseasonal late rains in Spring affected bloom and crop levels on some varieties. And above normal Summer temperatures required close watch of vineyard irrigation. A mid-August rain precipitated mildew in some regions, then a heat spell later in the month suddenly brought grapes to maturity. All in all, the weather conditions made for a roller-coaster vintage. The Suisun Valley experienced warm temperatures but was spared the late rains. The harvest progressed normally, and although yields were lighter than normal, quality was considered excellent.
