Wine Recommendation:
Peconic Bay 2001 Merlot
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
This vintage possessed unusually ripe tannins. Because of this, I was more aggressive in extracting color and tannin from the grapes. The result is a very complex and concentrated wine that will continue to improve for many years. The flavors are redolent of soft black cherries with notes of cedar, tobacco and chocolate enveloped by firm, ripe tannins that enhance the long silky finish.
Peconic Bay wines are the product of the soil and mild climate of
Cutchogue, Long Island, the town with the most days of sunshine and the longest growing season in New York State.
