Vineyard Notes:
Winemaker, Gary Wooton created SMITH WOOTON as a showcase for small lots of hand crafted wine. The label is a tribute to his parents, Evelyn Smith Wooton and Len Wooton. The latest release, the 2004 Syrah, is from Tanner Vineyard in the
Sierra Foothils near Murphys.
Wooton feels the crafting of fine wines is an art form. Each vintage starts in the vineyard, and each year the grapes provide new opportunities to craft wines to please your palate.
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
The Sierra foothills enhance the true, varietal characteristics of the Syrah grape. The solid, mature tannin structure supports the fruit. The result is a mellow blend with a touch of velvet. Like its Cabernet Franc sister, this Syrah promises to evolve for as long as you care to lay it down, but is very drinkable now.
The 2004 SMITH WOOTON SYRAH nearly springs from the glass, with fresh, ripe fruit and underlying spices. The intense, dark fruit coats the mouth and lingers long on the palate. Tannins are velvet smooth and the whole experience is one of luscious decadence. Elegant and superbly balanced, this Syrah promises to evolve for as long as you care to lay it down, but is very drinkable now. In short, it fills the mouth with complex flavors, has delicious fruit, soft tannins and great concentrations. Try it with roast pork, lamb, wild boar, duck, dark chocolate and fine cigars. One glass is never enough!
