Vineyard Notes:
Grapes for this Smith Wooton Cabernet Franc come from tiny, Gallagher’s Vineyard on
Napa Valley’s Silverado Trail, in the heart of the Cab growing region. Grower, Brian Gallagher, hand tends his plot and knows each vine intimately. As the result of his efforts, the grapes came in fat, ripe and loaded with varietal flavors. Production is very limited.
Winemaker Notes:
Winemaker, Gary Wooton, handcrafted the wine. The grapes were crushed and fermented in small lots at cool temperatures. This method created a long fermentation which accentuated the fruit flavors and added complexity. To avoid extraction of harsh tannins, no pumps were used until after the wine was pressed off the skins.
This special attention by Winemaker and grower created a wine with layers of complexity. Our 2003 Smith Wooton Cabernet Franc is the result of their labors. You won’t find a rough edge anywhere.
