Wine Recommendation

Loma Prieta Winery

2010 Pinotage, Amarosa Vineyard
(Lodi)

Deep, dark plummy-anise marmalade redolent of brown sugar, dates and walnuts – a perfect match for grilled pork tenderloin, or a molasses-fig glazed ham, accompanied by wild rice with rum-soaked prunes, apricot and chiles. Stuff game hens or chicken with the same and douse with a dose of dried cherries and oranges or tangerines in Pinotage reduction.

Ready to drink right now, this rich, heady, fruit-forward example of Pinotage at its California extreme, is soft and beckoning, with all the fabulous flavors of ripe fig-onion jam, curry, coffee and toffee. Smooth as a V-8 Corvette warming up on a Sunday afternoon. Vrrrooom! This one is going places. And it’s already been to the Winner’s Circle a few times: check out these medals!

Laura Ness

A wine writer and wine judge for major publications and competitions around the country, Laura Ness likens wine to the experience of music. She is always looking for that ubiquitous marriage of rhythm, melody, and flawless execution. What is good music? You know it when you get lost in it. What is good wine? It is music in your mouth.
