Vernaccia Grape Details

Vernaccia is the name of an ancient grape, whose name is widely used by several unrelated red and white grape varieties in the environs of Italy. These are responsible for both the fizzy red Vernaccia di Serrapetrona of the Marche, and the Vernaccia di Oristano, an almost sherry-like wine, from the island of Sardinia. The most esteemed is the Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a distinctive, dry white wine, raised near the towers of San Gimignano, in Siena province, Tuscany. Optimally, the wine has a refreshingly crisp nature, with an appealing bitter finish.
