Mazzocco Vineyards
2005 Zinfandel, Stone Ranch(Alexander Valley)
A: not at all ebullient aromatically; some hints of dark fruit and sweetness but mostly the wine is keeping its secrets in reserve.
B: Until you sip. Impressively cool, sweet entry with a lot of blueberry in the black cherries, some clove and allspice, dry earth, figs and pomegranate - good complexity with harmony to boot, and it all carries through to the finish. Plenty of bramble and texture and enough tannin to undergird everything else.
C: a full-spectrum Zin experience that also has distinct personality from the vineyard and the vintage. Drinking very, very well.
