Winemaker Tasting Notes:
Notes of grapefruit, pear, apricot and green apple highlight our wine. The partial oak aging provides a richness without undergoing malolactic fermentation. Floral and mineral hints add complexity while a crisp, natural acidity offers a clean and lasting finish. Vintage & Harvest Notes: The 2004 season started three weeks ahead of schedule as unseasonably warm weather in March caused an early bud break. Late spring and summer were characterized by a mild and even growing season which allowed the grapes a steady maturation, maximizing hang time on the vine. The season’s consistently moderate weather allowed for full development of flavors, especially some of the floral aromas. Winemaking Notes: Gann Family Cellars Sauvignon Blanc is produced from our Spring Hill Vineyard in Healdsburg. Our vineyard benefits from morning summer fogs that roll in through the Chalk Hill gap and up the Russian River in southwest Alexander Valley. A combination of cool mornings and evenings, along with warmer afternoons, allow the grapes to develop their complex flavors and crisp acidity. Originally planted in 1978, these old, gnarled vines now produce small yields of fruit with great depth and character. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks until reaching 11° Brix and then 1/3 was transferred to French oak barrels and allowed to finish fermentation and age five months sur lie.
