Morgan 2005 Sauvignon Blanc$16.00 -- MontereyPurchase Morgan 2005 Sauvignon Blanc
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
The color is a brilliant light straw yellow with green highlights. The aromas and flavors show ripe passion fruit, kiwi, and citrus, along with a hint of lemongrass. The light to medium weight texture complements the bright, accessible fruitiness of the wine and its refreshing acidity. Winemaking Notes: The wine was entirely tank fermented, capturing bright fruit flavors. Eighty-five percent of the must was transferred to Bordeaux barrels, of which 10% were new, for 3 months of aging. The barrel time develops complexity and mouth-feel. The blend is composed over several tastings and evaluations of the individual lots, with the final determination in the early spring. Vineyard Notes: We build complexity into Sauvignon Blanc with the addition of Semillon and Sauvignon Musque. The Semillon adds richness and depth of flavor and is a counter to the herb and sweet grass character of Sauvignon Blanc. In 2005, Semillon comprised 12% of the blend. The Sauvignon Musque is a clonal variety of Sauvignon Blanc that we prize for its aromatic intensity and gooseberry, citrus, tropical fruit, and melon flavors. Musque has flourished in Monterey, and comprises fully 80% of this vintage. Sauvignon Blanc is the remaining 8% of the blend, and offers the traditional sweet grass flavors. Cooler appellation fruit from the Arroyo Seco works well with the warmer San Lucas appellation fruit. Vintage Notes: The 2005 vintage was a long, cool vintage, with the first Sauvignon Blanc harvested in late August and wrapping up in early September. The long, cool season produced fine quality fruit with good acidity. Technical Notes:
