Winemaker Tasting Notes:
The 2004 Optima Orgaz Zin is a rich port-style dessert wine made from late-harvested Zinfandel grapes. It features distinct concentrated berry fruit aromas of blackberry and raspberry as well as ripe black mission fig and hazelnuts. The delicious, sweet, ripe fruit flavors and toasty oak blend together with flavors of lush blueberry and dried dates in a rich, dense candied finish.
Vineyard and Winemaking Notes:
The 2004 vintage was produced from fruit grown on the eastern bench of
Dry Creek Valley, 200 feet above the valley floor. The fruit was gently crushed and de-stemmed and fermented 9 days before fortification with aged brandy. Following pressing, this wine was clarified naturally by settling, and then moved to two 60 gallon French oak barrels for 12 months.
