Wine Recommendation:
Silver Mountain 2003 Pinot Noir, Miller Hill Vineyard
Tasting Notes:
A favorite of the Prince of Pinot, who says in his PinotFile Newsletter, "Medium-bodied with a gorgeous garnet robe. The nose is plush with red fruits and a brambly character. A wine of great elegance that finishes with a peek-a-boo dose of sexy fruit and spice that lingers and leaves you staring at the glass. Beautifully composed, balanced and sleek. Two hours later it was still solid. Wowee! Demure and curvaceous. You will love this wine!"
Winemaker Notes:
This Pinot Noir came from a vineyard close to Silver Mountain that is organically farmed. At 1750 feet this vineyard enjoys the cooling maritime influence of nearby Monterey Bay. The wine was aged 14-16 months in tight-grained Hungarian oak, which lends a light toasty, smoky character. The tight grain of the Hungarian oak reduces astringent oak tannins in the wine and allows only a subtle hint of oak flavors that support rather than dominate the fruit. This barrel choice complements the delicate Pinot Noir fruit and produces a smooth, silky mouthfeel, which contributes to the unique sensory experience of Silver Mountain Pinots. This is a well-balanced wine that will age gracefully for many years.
