Tasting Notes:
Aromas of strawberries, watermelon and bananas combined with floral characters. The flavors are bright strawberry and clove spices. The fresh mouthfeel makes this wine enjoyable for drinking RIGHT NOW!
Vineyard Notes
The Grenache in this blend was grown on 2 different vineyards. The first is our own estate vineyard here at the winery. Our Grenache program calls for bleeding some of the fresh “free-run” juice off of the must after it has been crushed. This juice is separated from the main Grenache and fermented on its own. During fermentation, we blend in fresh juice from grapes grown on the Bokisch Ranch in the soon-to-be-designated
Clements Hills Viticultural Area. These vines are true Spanish clones and give a distinctly watermelon character. Grower Markus Bokisch is a Spanish varietal aficionado and he tends these vines with great care. The Tempranillo that is blended with the Grenache comes from the Silvaspoons vineyard in Galt.
Winemaking Notes:
Upon reaching the winery, the fruit was whole cluster pressed to remove the fresh grape juice from the skins. After pressing, the Grenache was inoculated with a Spanish yeast strain and the yeast monitored throughout fermentation to ensure optimal yeast viability. The juice was fermented in a stainless steel tank over a period of nearly 30 days. Near the end of primary fermentation, we blended in 7% Tempranillo for a touch of color and complexity. It was bottled shortly after harvest in order to keep the fresh fruit flavors intact.
