Tyler Colman (a.k.a. Dr. Vino) talks, teaches and writes about wine. This all started in his Ph.D. dissertation on the political economy of the wine industry in France and the United States. So yes, he is a real doctor – he doesn’t just play one on the web. On his website – drvino.com – he makes good value wine recommendations and also looks at the world through the wine glass, bringing in diverse perspectives and lively reader contributions.
In the past year, Tyler’s wine writing has also appeared in print in Food & Wine, Wine & Spirits, The New York Times, The Guardian, and Trump magazine among other places. He also teaches wine classes at NYU and the University of Chicago, tastes about 2,000 wines a year, and gives talks and tastings for individuals and corporations.
On July 1, 2008, the University of California Press published Tyler’s first wine book, Wine Politics: How Governments, Environmentalists, Mobsters, and Critics Influence the Wines We Drink. On November 11, Simon & Schuster will publish his second wine book, A Year of Wine: Perfect Pairings, Great Buys, and What to Sip with Each Season.
