Brys Estate Vineyard and Winery
2006 Pinot Grigio, Estate(Old Mission Peninsula)
Pinot Gris is the varietal name in French. It also represents a wine style characterized by the Alsace version with later-harvested fruit, fuller body, bigger mid-palate and sometimes an oak influence.
On the other hand, Pinot Grigio is the varietal name in Italian. Yet, it too expresses a style that is stainless steel tank fermented, resulting in a fresh, clean and bright wine. Given the cooler climate of Michigan's Old Mission Peninsula, this latter is the Brys Estate chosen style.
Its slight golden-rose color showcases the grape's Pinot Noir relationship. Beautifully complex white-fleshed fruit accented by citrus, lime and tropical fruit aromas are well-mirrored as flavors with a crisp citrus edge.
Perfect as an aperitif pour, this very refreshing "grigio" style pairs with crab dishes, grilled seafood and anything appropriately splashed with lemon or sprinkled with lemon zest. As such, it has an extraordinary affinity to vegetable dishes and is a hit with vegetarians.
If you've been hypnotized by the Pinot Grigio hype and have sticker shock from the dizzying prices, you'll be delighted by this Brys Estate rendition. Only 217 cases were produced, making it a rare find in the maze of offerings bearing the varietal name Pinot Grigio.

The ReviewerThe Healds have been writing about wine since 1978 and have focused on appellation significance in many of their world beat writings. They value recognizing site personality (terroir) within an appellation's wines. They praise balance and elegance in wines styled to pair well with food and eschew over-extraction, high alcohol and heavy-handed oak. “Delicious” is their favorite descriptor for a great, well-made wine. |
