Wine Recommendation

Seka Hills

2011 Viognier, Estate
(Capay Valley)

Seka Hills is the emerging winery of the Yocha DeHe Wintun Nation in Capay Valley. Viognier has certainly proven itself in Capay Valley and the 2011 Seka Hills Viognier, their first release, has fully confirmed that knowledge. Planted in the Brooks region, where volcanic ash is known to be unique to the valley, Viognier is showing great class.

Winemaker Blake Kuhn seeks as full an expression in Viognier as he can draw from these vineyards and picks in several different periods of ripeness, seeking available aromatics of orange peel and jasmine, then the ripe lush tropical notes.

Opening acidity is brilliant and flavors of Mango, Lychee and tropical fruit make a rich styled wine. A tantalizing finish that last quite long shows hints of lime at the very end. Roughly 50% barrel fermentation and remainder in stainless add to the layers of nuance. Highly complimentary with white meats, seafood salads, white cream sauce pasta, there are so many flavors to enjoy.
