Winemaker Tasting Notes:
2001- A Complex and yet very smooth wine with a fine structure. Long finish with pepper, raspberry and blackberry flavors
2002- Complex yet delicate wine with coffee, black cherry, pepper, chocolate and spice flavors. Well balanced acidity with sweetness in the nose.
2003- A jammy, black representative of a great vintage. Dark purple with an aromatic profile of fresh blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry sorbet, underlaid with a hint of white pepper. The flavor of the wine shows the depth and complexity given by ripe fruit. Old vine Zin from vines planted in 1885.
Vineyard Notes:
The vineyards are located in the heart of the
Russian River Valley, in Sonoma County. The long, summer days, followed by cool nights impart distinctive flavors, with deep complex aromas. The result is long, lingering finished from complex, superb wines. Chemicals are not used in the vineyards and all of the wines are allowed to go through natural fermentation. The old vines are non-irrigated, head pruned, and hand picked. The traditional method of viticulture and winemaking is how the exquisite quality in our wines is achieved.
Winery Notes:
All of the wine is currently made in the small, modern winery located next to the still-standing original winery from 1885. Most of the winemaking equipment has been imported from Italy and the wine is made in the old, Italian style with the emphasis on quality.
