Bien Nacido Vineyard, the iconic vineyard located in Santa Barbara County’s
Santa Maria Valley, has released their first ever “Bien Nacido Collector’s Case”, featuring the wines of twelve different winemakers, representing twelve different wineries, all working with the fruit of Bien Nacido Vineyards. Most of these wines are no longer available from the individual wineries, and we want you to be able to collect them before they are gone. Four varietals will be highlighted inside this rare collection, including Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc.
Au Bon Climat 2002 Chardonnay:
The 2002 Nuits-Blanches au Bouge Chardonnay shows a lot of oak, fruit and leesy components. The ripe fruit is still there, but now anise is added to the flavor profile and a floral note of lavender is added to the aromas. It is balanced with all these flavors combining in a big mouthful of flavor and texture. This is a large wine, with big flavors, big aromas and a big bottle.
Tantara 2004 Chardonnay:
A Chardonnay that exudes classic Bien Nacido structural components such as racy acidity and fine tannins. A toasty tropical nose leads into a beautifully balanced palate of citrus, pumpkin squash and a touch of vanilla. Nice acidic finish.
Summerland 2004 Chardonnay:
A bright golden hue that hints of the finesse and balance experienced on the palate. Fresh crushed peach and honeysuckle highlight the bouquet followed by flavors of baked apple and Asian pear that leads to a wash of mineral and clean acidity in the finish. A wonderfully balanced wine, fresh and pleasant.
J. Wilkes 2004 Pinot Blanc:
Fragrant with white flowers and Meyer lemon peel with hints of a Muscat-like character.
Rich tropical flavors of banana, pineapple and melon explode on the palate. Lively and juicy with delicious apple-pear-like notes with hints Meyer lemon and cream. The full mouth feel is complemented by a minerality that adds complexity. Very rich in the mouth, but with a surprisingly long, clean finish that is very refreshing.
Trou de Bonde 2004 Pinot Blanc:
Racy aromas of melon and peach are joined on the palate by green apples, spice and gorgeous acidity.
Makor 2005 Pinot Blanc:
Spritzy and fresh! The round, full texture complements the lively gooseberry and white flower palate. A compelling wine that works as an aperitif or with a light meal.
Nicolaysen Family Vineyards 2002 Pinot Noir:
Flavors that are smoky, gamey and spicy, combined with a richness and depth that is never for the faint of heart. While this wine certainly satisfies the above characteristics, there is also a real floral and perfumey femininity that makes it enchantingly sexy.
Stephen Ross 2003 Pinot Noir:
Dark ruby in color, this vintage has more tannins than previous vintages due to the introduction of the new clones. Aromas of raspberry, black cherry and white pepper. There is a powerful, lingering core of “small red berries” with a hint of toasty oak. Voluptuous in body, rich flavors and refined, silky tannins.
Lane Tanner 2004 Pinot Noir:
Pure, perfectly ripened fruit is ever the dominant theme for this Pinot. Cherryish fruit framed by
sweet oak and hints of violet move into a positively plush finish.
Qupe 2003 Bien Nacido Hillside Estate Syrah:
The aroma shows white pepper, dried raspberry and an intriguing mocha character from the barrel fermentation. The flavors are concentrated without being heavy, with bright fruit in the mouth and a long, zesty finish.
Jaffurs Wine Cellars 2003 Syrah:
Jaffurs’ darkest wine! Rich and fruitful on the finish, it has density and power. It may the best wine of the 2004 vintage. Classic Bien Nacido high-tone, spice-cherry aroma and a thick, dark-fruit taste.
Ojai 2003 Syrah:
Plenty fruit filled yet expresses itself in a more complex, spicy, exotic and earthy way. Beautiful texture, full mouth-feel complement this truly exciting wine.
