Winemaker Tasting Notes:
Sugarloaf Mountain is known for producing deeply concentrated, full-bodied wines, and our 2003 Syrah is no exception. The deep purple to nearly black hue of this Syrah is indicative of its bold richness in body and flavor. Aromas leap from the glass with flirty blueberries and exotic spices that beg to be tasted - and the palate delivers with complex layers of dark ripe stone fruit, and blackberries. After aging for 20 months on 100% French oak, the mouth feel is seductive and brooding with beautiful texture. Enjoy this wine today but save some for the cellar…
Vineyard Notes:
Composed primarily of alluvial deposits and volcanic rock, Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is located on the cool southeastern edge of the city of Napa, in the Vaca Hills, the eastern mountain range that defines the
Napa Valley. The southwestern facing hillsides of the vineyard guarantee long sun exposure through the late afternoons, while the rocky, well-drained soils ensure highly concentrated fruit. Currently planted to Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Merlot, Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard is the focus of our Syrah program, producing ultra-concentrated fruit and intense finished wines characterized by deep color, full body and flavors of ripe berry, stone fruit and exotic spice.
