Vineyard Notes:
The grapes for this wine come from Davis Bynums' own certified organic vineyard located on the hillside behind the winery. The Lindleys' Knoll vineyard is planted with six different Pinot Noir clones, including Dijon, Pommard, Martini and Wadenswil 2A. This vineyard is ideal for growing Pinot, with generous sun exposure and well-drained hillside soils. After 14 years of growth, the vines on Lindleys' Knoll are producing grapes that are beautifully balanced.
Winemaking Notes:
The grapes were fermented in open-topped tanks, and were punched down manually three to five times per day to maximize extraction and avoid crushing the skins. The wine was aged in French oak for 17 months, and 30% new oak was used to marry the wood and skin tannins and to caramelize and lengthen the finish.
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
"This wine opens with aromas of roasted chestnut, blueberry, dark rich cherry and spicy nutmeg, on a background of almond and mushrooms. The flavor of rich black cherries continues into the finish, where it is joined by smoky plum. The large natural acid backbone and firm tannins will reward cellaring, allowing the complex flavors to meld and improve for years to come." -Winemaker David Georges.
