Vineyard Notes:
For lovers of great Pinot Noir, wines made from the Hirsch Vineyard have
provided a benchmark for California grape growers/winemakers. For two
decades, David Hirsch has been nurturing Pinot Noir grapes with
intelligence, passion and care. This single-minded pursuit has given a few
lucky winemakers the opportunity to create wines which express the wild
character of these very special ridgetops on the
Sonoma Coast.
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
Medium ruby in color, the wine offers up an inticing nose of star anise,
baking spices, and earth, opening up with a round mouth-filling attack of
juicy black raspberry fruit. The wine begins to exhibit it's full, firm
masculine structural component in the midpalate which then dissolves
into a focused and lingering finish of orange peel and spicecake. This wine
can be enjoyed upon opening, but an hour or two of exposure to the air
will help this wine to develop further nuance.
