Winemaking Notes:
2005 was a very warm year on the Leelanau Peninsula and the fruit was harvested riper than average so we made a wine that reflected this unique season. The fruit was destemmed but not crushed and left in the press for 4 hours to extract more of the character of this vintage. The wine is fermented completely in stainless steel tanks at moderate temperatures and left for a time on the fine lees to build the texture of the finished wine. Bottling takes place early the next spring to retain the fresher qualities in the wine.
Tasting Notes:
Reflective of the warmer vintage this wine is fairly rich for a Pinot Grigio. There are the expected apple and melon qualities found in this variety, along with fleshier pear and nectarine and a touch of floral and toasty notes. Tremendous length in the finish showcase this fine vintage.
