Harvest Notes:
This was the earliest harvest ever for this wine. The warm season started to push sugars and acids into a range that was not typical of the style of wine we like to make so we picked the fruit before it became too “warm climate” in nature. We want to respect the stone fruit aspects of this wine while retaining good, vibrant acidity… “cool climate” Riesling is what we are about.
Winemaking Notes:
We combined whole cluster pressing for some lots with some light skin contact for other lots. The wine was fermented in stainless steel at moderate temperatures and the fermentations stopped at a range of 0% to 5% residual sugar. The wine was immediately racked, filtered and blended leaving 3% residual sugar in the final wine. We bottle this wine early to maintain the fresh fruit qualities of the variety.
Tasting Notes:
This wine is packed with fresh peach and tropical fruit. There are very definite supporting notes of honeysuckle, apricot, citrus and mineral. The residual sugar is carefully balanced with vibrant, racy acidity that keeps the finish of this wine clean and crisp.
Recognitions:
Riesling has become one of the wines we are known for as our 2004 Semi-Dry won Best of Class in the Riesling category in the 2006 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and our 2005 won Best of Class in the Semi-Dry category in the Michigan Wine & Spirits Competition.
