Anglim Winery
2005 Pinot Noir, Fiddlestix Vineyard(Sta. Rita Hills)
Anglim is a very small family winery with a tasting room in Paso Robles that gives it great exposure to the throngs that flood the town. Paso has literally become a walking tasting bar. Almost all Anglim’s wines are well-made and worthy of exploration. In making this wine, the fruit was de-stemmed and fermented whole-berry style in open-top bins using a slow-fermenting yeast strain. It was then aged 15 months in 100 percent French oak barrels, of which approximately 20 percent were new.
This Pinot Noir is well-boned and effusive with Pinot character. There are fine aromas and flavours of cherries, strawberries, raspberries and that ethereal liquid earth essence that is so Pinot Noir. Hints of watermelon, bubble gum and pine forest make this an intriguing and satisfying wine to drink now, or lay down for another 8 years or so. The balance is near perfection, like a gymnast on a balance beam.

The ReviewerA wine writer and wine judge for major publications and competitions around the country, Laura Ness likens wine to the experience of music. She is always looking for that ubiquitous marriage of rhythm, melody, and flawless execution. What is good music? You know it when you get lost in it. What is good wine? It is music in your mouth. |
