Brys Estate Vineyard and Winery 2006 Pinot Noir - Artisan Series (Old Mission Peninsula)

Brys Estate Vineyard and Winery

2006 Pinot Noir - Artisan Series
(Old Mission Peninsula)

Pinot Noir is the inaugural wine to be released in the Brys Estate Artisan Series. This new wine sequence, which will eventually include Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Chardonnay, was created with the goal of bringing wine aficionados the highest quality from each varietal grown on the Old Mission Peninsula AVA Brys Estate.

In 2000, Texas real estate developers Eileen and Walt Brys chose their native state of Michigan and the Old Mission Peninsula AVA as a grand opportunity to fulfill their dream of owning a vineyard and winery. Their success has been nothing but phenomenal since opening their tasting room doors to the public in 2005.

With release of the 2006 Artisan Series, their winemaker, South African-born Coenraad Stassen, has achieved one of the finest renditions of Pinot Noir to be produced in Michigan. Its deep ruby color with youthful purple edges leads to aromas of cherry, blueberries, red plum, red raspberries, dried leaves and a generous spice cabinet. Flavors are mirrored on the palate in a round, generous, complex and enticing wine that's both drinkable and ageable.

Serve it with confit de canard or magret de canard and a drizzle of raspberry sauce for a palate delight.

The Healds have been writing about wine since 1978 and have focused on appellation significance in many of their world beat writings. They value recognizing site personality (terroir) within an appellation's wines. They praise balance and elegance in wines styled to pair well with food and eschew over-extraction, high alcohol and heavy-handed oak. “Delicious” is their favorite descriptor for a great, well-made wine.
