Ganton and Larsen Prospect Winery
2006 Ogopogo's Lair Pinot Grigio(Okanagan Valley)
Prospect Winery is a new brand-cum-winery being spun off by Mission Hill as a vehicle for Mission Hill’s entry-level VQA wines. Those have been released under Mission Hill’s Five Vineyard’s label. In that range, the biggest success has been the Pinot Grigio. Last year, the winery sold $1.3 million of this single wine through British Columbia’s liquor stores.
The Ogopogo’s Lair Pinot Grigio echoes the same popular style. With lively acidity and a touch of residual sugar, this juicy wine has aromas and flavours of pears and citrus. The finish is crisp. The wine is thoroughly refreshing, with a moderate alcohol (12.5%) appropriate for the Pinot Grigio style. 87 points.
With all the wines in this line, the winery has fun with labels celebrating the Okanagan. Ogopogo is a mythical creature said to live in the depths of Okanagan Lake.

The ReviewerJohn Schreiner has been covering the wines of British Columbia for the past 30 years and has written 10 books on the wines of Canada and BC. He has judged at major competitions and is currently a panel member for the Lieutenant Governor’s Awards of Excellence in Wine. Both as a judge and as a wine critic, he approaches each wine not to find fault, but to find excellence. That he now finds the latter more often than the former testifies to the dramatic improvement shown by BC winemaking in the past decade. |
