Wine Recommendation

Three Families Winery 2006 Chardonnay (Mendocino County)

Three Families Winery

2006 Chardonnay
(Mendocino County)

Three Families Winery produces wines that are as easy on the wallet as they are on the palate. The winery is located in Southern Mendocino County’s Hopland. While there is no public tasting room, wines may be tasted at sister winery Dogwood Cellars, also in Hopland. Standing out from the crowd, their labels incorporate comic strip drawings by Northern California-based still life painter Kathrine Lemke Waste.

This Chardonnay is clean and bright with a straw yellow color. As if in competition with the wacky label, the wine itself goes in for the kill with enticing aromas of butter, Asian pear, Fuji apple, nutmeg, cream, honey and marzipan. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with juicy, mouth-watering flavors of green apple, lemon custard, buttercream frosting and lemon drop. For a wine made without oak, it has a pleasant, creamy richness. The finish is of moderate length, and the wine is well balanced and ready to drink now.

Great as a cocktail, this would also be delicious at the table with fresh-cracked Dungeness crab, lobster with drawn butter, or on a picnic with lobster rolls.
