Capay Valley Vineyards
Sparkling Viognier(Capay Valley)
Sparking wine has the ususal set of grapes from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and we are pretty familiar with what to expect in flavor and acidity. Once in a while a unique sparking is made from other varietals and that is the case with the Capay Valley Vineyards N/V Viognier Sparking Wine. Some have questioned is this a correct grape to make sparking from. This wine would argue heavily YES!
The initial opening is exciting as any sparking wine. Light pale in color with modest bubbles there is little nose, which means no yeasty notes in the glass.
The surprise comes immediately on taste. Brilliant acidity combined with a bit creamy candied tart nuance demands an explanation without an answer other than WOW this in unique and really good!
Got a summer wedding or commemorative event and want to be different, this is a great choice and well priced, or maybe at Holiday Season before that big dinner.
