Vineyard Notes:
Fruit for the Black-Chinned Syrah is sourced 100% from the Clos LaChance Estate Vineyard in San Martin. The 80-acre Estate Vineyard was planted in 1999. Nearly 20 varietals were planted, along with 60 separate clones—providing Winemaker Stephen Tebb with a spice-rack of blending wines. Hot sunny days throughout the growing season, coupled with cool ocean breezes in the evenings, allow for increased grape hang-time, and the further development of flavors and complexities.
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
This Syrah blend is dark, dark, dark, an almost glass-staining ruby-purple in color. Aromas of rich black plums, huckleberries and concentrated blueberries are prevalent in the nose. This wine is typical Syrah - with smoky and meaty aspects, along with rosemary and black tea. Red cherries and blackberries dominate on the mouth with the classic meaty undertones in the mid-palate that are found in a good Syrah. Vanilla beans and coffee flavors lingers on the finish to round out this delicious Syrah.
Food Pairing:
Roasted Pork with Molé Sauce, Grilled Lamb with Blackberry Sauce, Cheese Plate with Parmigiano-Reggiano, Dry Jack and Peppered Goat Cheese.
