About Fall Creek Vineyards:
Fall Creek Vineyards was established in 1975 by Texas businessman/rancher, Ed Auler and his wife, Susan. The vineyards are located eighty miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country where the sandy loam soil, warm days and cool breezes off Lake Buchanan provide an excellent microclimate for growing premium wine grapes.
A Note About Meritus:
MERITUS is a single-wine, super-premium brand produced by Fall Creek Vineyards. The vision behind MERITUS was to create a red wine in Texas that has no equal. In 1999, the vision became reality with the first release, and the 1996 MERITUS was a wine that could stand toe to toe with the great wines from California and Europe. Since then, MERITUS has reached ‘cult’ wine status.
This wine has not only been critically acclaimed, but it has been called “the finest wine red or white ever produced in the state of Texas” by a noted author and wine writer. Another wine writer wrote, “Meritus honors the best of Texas wine.”
MERITUS is not produced in every year. It is only produced when the grapes warrant. We select the finest lots from our Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec vineyards to use in MERITUS. Only four vintages have been released—’96, ’99, '02 and ’03
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
This wine is a mouthful of ripe cherry and dark berry fruit flavors that explode on the palate. The beautiful use of oak adds a touch of spice and vanilla to the graceful texture. The finish is so long and silky smooth that it leaves you wanting more.
