Inwood Estates 2003 Tempranillo - Cabernet Sauvignon$39.50 --Purchase Inwood Estates 2003 Tempranillo - Cabernet Sauvignon
Vineyard Notes:
It is a full-bodied, fully-extracted, inky blend is comprised of 58% Tempranillo and 42% Cabernet Sauvignon. Both grapes are grown at the same location in the A Note on Terroir: The French term "terroir", meaning the land or soil, but more widely known in the wine industry as the flavors conveyed from the soil and site elements to the wine, is critical in understanding our wines. Red fruit wines MUST have high mineral soils for their flavors to materialize. For this reason, Tempranillo has never been a significant grape for California. Yet this, and its native adaptability to hotter climates, make it the perfect wine variety for Texas with one caveat: Tempranillo must have a nighttime temperature of lower than 65 degrees every night during its ripening season (past veraision) to develop tannin and brix. This is a process called "respiration" and this requirement excludes most of Texas from its production. . Varietal Notes: Tempranillo is a grape with the Red Fruit flavor profile, much like Pinot Noir, where Cherries, Raspberries and Strawberries should be most evident. This is opposite of Black Fruit varieties like Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah where the dominant flavors should be Black Currant, Blackberries and Cassis. Winemaking and Tasting Notes: The Inwood Estates 2003 Tempranillo-Cabernet is one of the "brightest" wines in the marketplace with the red-fruit characteristics bursting at the seams both in the glass and in the mouth. This brightness is not to be confused with lightness, as it is not light at 14.1% alcohol. In fact, the 2004 and 2005 wines are 14.3 and 14.5 respectively, however, it is important to hold the reins on the alcohol since high alcohols are inconsistent with the tradition of red-fruit wines like Tempranillo and Pinot Noir.
