Wine Recommendation

Bargetto Winery 2006 Gewurztraminer, Viento Vineyard (Monterey County)

Bargetto Winery

2006 Gewurztraminer, Viento Vineyard
(Monterey County)

Amazingly pure to form and beautiful, this wine has an almost ideal Gewurztraminer nose. No surprise though, as this vineyard yields perfectly focused fruit and Bargetto Winery winemaker Michael Sones turns it into the most ethereal and varietally correct example of this robust and expressive white wine. The amazing spice overwhelms the nose with coriander, ginger and apricots.

On the palate, the flavors are all white peaches and nectarines, with some nice apricots coming on at the finish, which, by the way, goes on forever. Rarely have I had a Gewurz from other than Anderson Valley that made such a great impression overall. And the price is more than right.

This would be one of my top recs for an Asian chicken salad redolent with ginger, sesame oil, cilantro and toasted almonds.
