O'Brien Family Vineyard
2004 Seduction(Napa Valley)
These days finding a Napa Valley Bordeaux blend or “Meritage” wine for under $30 is like finding a needle in a haystack. With benchmarks Opus One, Cain Five, Quintessa, and Joseph Phelps Insignia leading the way at double and triple this amount, the O’Brien’s Seduction, at $35, is a breath of fresh air.
Bart and Barb O’Brien purchased the former Costello Winery in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley AVA. Their team includes
Pina Vineyards Management, who also manage Bryant Family and Gemstone vineyards, and winemaker David Yorgensen, who worked with renowned winemaking consultant Philippe Melka at Seavey Vineyard. They focus on Chardonnay, Merlot, and this Bordeaux blend, incorporating fruit from their 33 acre vineyard.
No pesticides or herbicides are used.
Seduction is a proprietary red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. This Bordeaux inspired blend tastes more like a high end Tuscan blend with its dark bitter cherry, boysenberry, mulberry, menthol, rosemary, and vanilla notes. It is round and voluptuous with juicy natural acids and sweet oak tones.
