Wine Recommendation:
Augusta Winery 2002 Norton "Cynthiana"
Designated "Appellation Signature" Wine:
This wine carries big, ripe berry which a couple of tasters found “over the top, but good.” Dave Johnson respectfully called it an “in your face” Norton. The nose is complex, with oak and earthiness, and the finish is long. This wine is an illuminated portrait, not wallpaper.
Wine Region Notes:
German immigrants from the Rhine River valley brought their customs and culture to the Missouri in the 1830's. In the heart of the Missouri wine country, along the Missouri River lies a 15 square mile plot of land which came to be known as the first officially recognized appellation in all of North America. This town of
Augusta was approved as an AVA largely on its long historical relationship with wine and its hills that protect the vineyards from the extreme weather conditions.
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
Dry red, full body, intense flavors, mouth-filling, oak aged.
