Winemaking Notes:
The grapes were hand-picked from the Home Ranch section of Sangiacomo Vineyard, in the
Carneros appellation, after attaining optimal ripeness and sugar/acid balance. 100% free-run juice was moved to a stainless steel tank to cold-settle for c. 96 hours. The must was inoculated with a Burgundy yeast strain in the tank. After fermentation was underway, fermenting juice was moved to barrels to complete yeast and malolactic fermentation.
Aging Notes:
The wine was aged sur lies, for 14-16 months, in a selection of 67% new Seguin Moreau French oak barrels and 33% one-year old American oak Seguin Moreau barrels. After this extended barrel aging on the lees to enhance color, complexity, texture and flavor, the wine was bottled 100% unfiltered.
Tasting Notes:
This delicious, lush Chardonnay was produced via traditional Burgundian vinification techniques. It possesses a beautiful balance of rich, complex, seamlessly meshed chardonnay flavors, which reflect its Carneros appellation, Sonoma single-vineyard origin. On the nose the wine exhibits fragrant aromas of mandarin orange, mango, honey, hazelnut, and vanilla. On the palate the wine displays firm acidity, with meyer lemon, peach, tangerine, and vanilla notes, followed by mineral, and light caramel notes on the lengthy, layered finish.
This sumptuous golden blonde chardonnay is drinking beautifully now in its youth, and will continue to evolve and mature throughout the course of this decade.
