Silver Mountain Vineyards 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Weideman Ranch (Santa Clara Valley)

Silver Mountain Vineyards

2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Weideman Ranch
(Santa Clara Valley)

Fans of Silver Mountain know their signature Bordeaux blend, Alloy. Well, this Cab represents the best of the Cabernet that goes into that blend. They singled out the best of the lots and aged them an additional eight months to produce this rich Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s pretty nice stuff.

Beginning with a rather distinctive Bordeaux schnazz, there’s some definite whiffs of barnyard going on here. Perhaps a wee bit young for a Cab release in these parts, the flavors are all there and very pleasing, opening with nice and rich baked plum and cherry tart. In the middle, the rich meaty flavors and textures brought to mind roast beef on ciabatta with a rich tomato and basil pesto. This is a hearty, dense wine that can stand up to lasagna, but like a fine white linen napkin, it wipes the palate clean with its very smooth finish of fine oak. For sure this is a wine with staying power, so don’t be in a hurry to drink up.
