Far to the north in upstate New York sits Wayne County. It is next to Canada, separated by Lake Ontario. This is cold climate yet the mitigating effects of Lake Ontario during winter months hold harsh freezing temperatures at bay for the vines planted close enough.

Only a handful of vineyards and wineries exist here and grapes grow along with apples and other tree fruits that thrive in summer months. Both V. vinifera and hybrid clones have been planted. Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc are well established, but the hybrid Noiret has stated a claim.

Current Feature

In the southern Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and Georgia vineyards are small and few, yet the establishment of the Upper Hiwassee Highlands could bring much more.  [>] continue
