Lodi has been a wine grape growing area as long as the
Santa Cruz Mountains. While the two areas produce wine grapes today they are directed toward two different styles of wine. So, it is very exciting to have found a Zinfandel vineyard, planted in 1909, producing top quality wine. Rauser and Schmierer Vineyards sit side by side on the banks of the Mokelumne River. Mohr Fry Vineyard, a 150 year-old family business, lies further south in the prestigious Lodi Crush District 11. Knarled and still head pruned, the vines at each of these vineyards look as though they've been through 100 harvests.
Winemaker Tasting Notes:
Playful blackberry with undertones of smoke and pepper greet one in the glass. Black cherry and jam are complemented by hints of violet and oak. This wine offers rounded tannins and a medium structure that will lend itself nicely to anything from wild boar to pasta ziti. Enjoy!
